The client for this Carriage House presented us with several needs for this project. They needed more space in their existing home, and wished to take over the existing garage for office and playroom space. They would then need a new garage. They also have a pool and are on a lake, and wished to have an additional entertaining area that could serve as a pool house while providing views of the lake.
Mackin Architects designed this Carriage House with a three-car garage, indoor living space, and an exterior entertaining terrace, complete with Tuscan oven, for outdoor dining. The new terrace also provides pool and lake views. The Craftsman style is a favorite of the owner, especially its details of layered woodwork, masonry, and metal work. These details appear throughout in brick and stone, the use of copper rain chains, and iron strapping on the interior beams.
